Lulu Island

Lulu Island
Project Year: 2009

The design concept is deeply inspired by traditional Arab architecture, yet reinterprets it in a contemporary architectural language. At the heart of the composition lie the courtyards, which serve as private retreats while also creating spaces for social interaction. They generate a pleasant microclimate, promote natural ventilation, and provide shade, all essential elements within the local climatic context.

By clearly separating interior and exterior, views from the street are deliberately screened out, ensuring a high degree of discretion and privacy for residents. At the same time, the courtyards open inward, offering a sheltered, intimate environment where community and privacy coexist in balance.

A distinctive design feature is the use of cantilevered upper floors, which not only add architectural depth but also serve a functional role: shading both the surrounding streets and the courtyards, thus helping to reduce heat exposure. In combination with shading, ventilation, and greenery, this creates a holistic and sustainable climatic strategy.
